Early Head Start
Providing innovative childhood programming is an essential part of NAYA’s mission to serve everyone from babies to elders.

Providing innovative childhood programming is an essential part of NAYA’s mission to serve everyone from babies to elders. Our Native Early Head Start classroom helps families and gives children a cultural “head start” on their educational journeys. The program offers a culturally specific Early Head Start that focuses its developmental teachings using natural environment and play learning.
To combat the marginalization of the Native American community, staff at the Native Early Head Start focus on the importance of promoting a quality early learning environment for children that is culturally and developmentally appropriate. Research suggests that adults who engage children in culturally responsive educational experiences help to:
- Build young children’s self-confidence and skills.
- Increase children’s awareness, appreciation, and inclusion of diverse beliefs and
cultures. - And maximize children’s academic achievement and educational success.
NEHS serves 12 children per year, ages 6 weeks to 36 months old, with 9 hours of quality early education and care, Monday through Friday, 8 am – 5 pm (summer hours may vary) and includes scheduled days off for planning and breaks. These hours enable families to work year- round and full-time, knowing their children are being well cared for. Please note this service is only for children 3 years old and under.
