Chaku Kumtuks Illahee

NAYA’s new Early Learning Center, in partnership with Portland Community College, Home Forward, and Oregon Department of Human Services, located at chaku kumtuks haws is located at NE 42nd Ave that will serve children from infancy through Preschool.

Chaku Kumtuks Illahee (CKI) is an Indigenous place where children learn, grow, and belong. Owned and operated by NAYA, CKI is a community where children and families are celebrated, supported, and surrounded by culture. At CKI, we blend high quality early education with the teachings, values, and traditions that have strengthened our people for generations.

We offer full day, year-round care for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers in a warm, safe, and trauma informed environment. Our staff come from the community we serve, representing Tribal nations across our region and bringing cultural knowledge, compassion, and deep commitment to every child.

At CKI, children experience:

• Culturally rooted learning through Creative Curriculum, storytelling, and Positive Indian Parenting

• Trauma informed care that nurtures healing, resilience, and belonging

• Holistic support guided by the Relational Worldview Model—honoring mind, body, spirit,  and family

• Early literacy and math foundations that prepare children for lifelong learning

Located in the heart of the Indigenous Cultural Corridor, CKI connects families to a full circle of NAYA wraparound services from cultural classes and parenting support to housing resources, employment coaching, and youth programs.

Our vision is simple: Every child deserves a place where they are seen, heard, and celebrated.

Our mission is powerful: To uplift families through cultural identity, education, and community connection. If you’re looking for a preschool that honors your child’s whole self and walks alongside your family on your journey. We invite you to join us at CKI.

Together, we are growing strong, connected, culturally grounded children.
