PIP: Praise in Traditional Parenting

November 13, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Positive Indian Parenting is an eight week course focusing on traditional and culturally specific parenting practices and values. We will explore attitudes in a variety of traditional child-rearing ways and apply them to values and challenges of modern parenting skills.

Session 7: Praise in Traditional Parenting

This session will explore the role of praise in traditional parenting. It introduces the ideas that praise and positive reinforcement played an important part in child-rearing in the past and are still important today. Parents are asked to examine examples of the old ways and learn new skills for giving children praise to reinforce positive behaviors.

In this session parents will learn:

  • recognize the ways in which praise was used in traditional Indian parenting
  • understand the reasons behind the old ways
  • apply the use of praise using modern skills

Dinner and childcare are provided.
