Join us at the NAYA Family Center on Saturday, September 14th, for our Tenth Annual Neerchokikoo Powwow, a celebration of Native American culture. Since 2010, the Neerchokikoo Powwow has welcomed the community to gather in the tradition of the powwow, with drumming and dance for men and women of all ages. Chxi San is a Chinook Wawa word meaning “new day.” Chxi San is a community-oriented playgroup for parents and their children, pre-birth through age five, that creates a nurturing circle of care through culturally focused, child-centered, and developmentally appropriate play in a structured environment. We welcome and encourage community, elders and kin to join parents and their children in the playgroup. We also provide healthy, nutritious and culturally appropriate snacks during playgroup. The playgroup is free and open to all.

The Pathways Home: Homebuyer Education class takes you through the steps to reach mortgage-readiness and each step of the home buying process. This interactive class uses current, culturally specific information and exercises from Pathways Home: A Native Homeownership Guide (developed by the National American Indian Housing Council, NeighborWorks America and Oweesta). Indigenous Games Culture Night! For this culture night we will be playing Indigenous games: doubleball, family/village lacrosse, a rock-in-fist tournament, and games of intuition and guessing. Did you know that traditional games often reinforced skills that complemented the work that needed to be done around villages?
