Senate Bill 13, Tribal Literacy: Advocate from Anywhere!

March 29, 2017 @ 6:00 pm

SB 13 Tribal Literacy – Throughout the state of Oregon, K-12 education lacks accurate and balanced historical components that reflect Oregon’s first people and their descendants’ culture, traditions, and contributions as well as the impact of non-Native settlement in their lands and the ensuing forced relocation and oppression which exists to this day. To tell the true story of the history of Oregon and its impact on modern day Native peoples is good education for all of our children. We support the direction of the Department of Education to develop curriculum relating to Native American experience in Oregon and to provide professional development related to curriculum with input and approval from local tribal and Native communities.

Currently this bill is awaiting review by the Joint Committee on Ways and Means, or the group of elected officials that decide where our tax money goes. If you want to help this bill to pass there are many things you can do without going to Salem. You can “Advocate from Anywhere,” even in your pajamas, even without a computer. Join us Wednesday, March 29th and find out how you can put the MOVE in MOVEment!
