PYEC Presents: Land Acknowledgement Conversation

May 20, 2019 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Please RSVP so we can get a headcount for dinner.

Monday, May 20, 2019
5:30-8:00 PM
NAYA Family Center (5135 NE Columbia Blvd)

A Land Acknowledgement is a formal statement that recognizes and respects Indigenous Peoples as traditional stewards of this land and the enduring relationship that exists between Indigenous Peoples and their traditional territories. Many institutions, organizations, government agencies, and groups have started to practice reading statements that acknowledge the original inhabitants of the land they are gathering before meetings.

Join us as we talk about the importance of acknowledging our Indigenous Nations and what are the best practices for Non-Native friends. Speakers are stilling being confirmed, but we plan to have representation from the local Tribes, historians, and community leaders join our conversation.

Portland Youth and Elders Council is a grassroots advocacy group housed at NAYA Family Center, and is open to everyone interested in building a strong civic connection with the local Native American community. Our mission is to strengthen the quality of life for the Portland American Indian and Alaska Native Community by encouraging local leadership, community development, and the practice of culture, values, and traditions
