PIP: Lessons of the Cradleboard

October 16, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Positive Indian Parenting is an eight week course focusing on traditional and culturally specific parenting practices and values. We will explore attitudes in a variety of traditional child-rearing ways and apply them to values and challenges of modern parenting skills.

Session 3: Lessons of the Cradleboard

This session is designed to explore traditional methods of nurturing and how growth and development were recognized. It examines the use of cradleboards, wrapping, massaging, and signing as nurturing ways. Further, it looks at how child development was viewed and encouraged. Parents will receive information on the needs of children and examine what the old ways teach us about bonding, nurturing, and development.

In this session, parents will learn how to:

  • recognize how nurturing happened traditionally
  • understand the importance of good nurturing
  • understand how traditional ways helped children develop
  • recognize how child development is tied to readiness to perform new tasks

Dinner and childcare are provided.
