Sunrise EAST (Education and Skills Training) is the youth workforce development program at NAYA. We work with low-income, at-risk young adults ages 16-24. Through workshops, career exploration activities, and one-on-one coaching, we provide long-term support and guidance to our youth so that they can be successful in their career and/or post-secondary endeavors and overcome any obstacles that may be in their paths.
A large piece of a successful, trusted workforce development program is the development of strong partnerships with business professionals in the community. We want to open doors for our youth, show them opportunities that exist, and support them in taking steps to realize their dreams! Business partners (and other volunteers) can be an amazing asset through participation in:
- Mock interviews
- Tutors (primarily math)
- Workshop instruction/presentation
- Career panels
- Company tours
- Job shadows
- Informational interviews
- Employment connections
- Other career exploration/program support activities!
Mock interviews, tutoring and workshop instruction is needed on an ongoing basis. Other opportunities are scheduled as need/when available. If you are interested in participating in any of these activities (or have an idea of your own!)
Please contact Tony Camber, Youth Career Skills Coach at 503.288.8177 ext. 213 or tonyc@nayapdx.org. if you are interested in speaking further about the ways you can support our youth.
