PIP: Lessons of Mother Nature

November 6, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Positive Indian Parenting is an eight week course focusing on traditional and culturally specific parenting practices and values. We will explore attitudes in a variety of traditional child-rearing ways and apply them to values and challenges of modern parenting skills.

Session 6: Lessons of Mother  Nature

This session is designed to explore how Indian families traditionally taught living skills and social skills. It examines how nature was used as a teacher and how the examples from nature taught people to get along with one another, cope with hardships, and find strength. Several examples from various tribes are discussed, and parents are asked to examine their part in helping their children develop skills for living.

In this session parents will learn

  • understand how examples from nature were traditionally used to teach skills for living
  • recognize the parents’ role in helping children develop skill for living
  • help their children prepare for the world

Dinner and childcare are provided.
