NAYA Family Center is working to increase the profile of Native Americans in the Portland area. At the 10th Annual NAYA Gala on November 15th, Executive Director Matthew Morton debuted a public service announcement created through a partnership with Comcast, the Potlatch sponsor for the evening. Morton introduced the PSA, saying,
“Potlatch means “to give,” and through their selfless support, Comcast is giving NAYA an incredible gift: an increased profile in the broader community, helping us meet our goal of making the invisible visible. … Comcast has gone above and beyond, producing a public service announcement to educate the broader community about our work, and raise awareness of the Native community that exists right here where we live. Our faces, our stories, and our traditions are going to become increasingly known thanks to a generous grant from Comcast to produce and air this PSA on our behalf. Join me in thanking them.”
The showing elicited many cheers from the sold-out crowd of more than 550 people from local non-profits, foundations, businesses and government. The video will be airing on television in the near future. Watch the PSA at the top of this post.
