Elizabeth came to the Early College Academy after participating in NAYA’s Family and Sibling Visit Nights where NAYA offered a safe space for her to reconnect with her two younger siblings who are still in foster care. Elizabeth herself floated from home to home as a foster youth for much of her childhood before recently being reunited with her mother, who she now lives with.
When asked why she wanted to come to the ECA, Elizabeth quickly replied, “because of the diverse programs and activities that are offered. And if NAYA or the school doesn’t offer a service you need, they will refer you somewhere else.” Through NAYA’s Sunrise EAST program, Elizabeth was placed in an internship with an outside organization and later utilized the same program and is now an intern with NAYA’s Development Department. She is currently working to support fundraising events to give back to her community.
“My proudest moment was when I graduated from high school.” Elizabeth said while grinning from ear to ear. It didn’t take much to get her excited and talking about her future and education. She has plans to attend college and learn about music production. “One day I’ll be a DJ at all of NAYA’s fundraising events.”
