Cazmine, Hunkpapa Lakota and Muskogee Creek, is from Fort Yates, North Dakota. She has been attending NAYA of over 12 years. Cazmine started as a youth, as NAYA’s first Foster care client and helped developed the program. She was also one of the first NAYA youth to be a part of the high school. “It started as 5 boys and me sitting in a little 10’ by 10’ room, and that’s where we went to school all day. Our phys-ed time was going to Pita Pit, and (NAYA Physical Education Coordinator) Micah Johnson taking us to the park for about an hour to play basketball.” About her time at NAYA, Cazmine says “I love that I have been around from the beginning of things at NAYA and have seen them grow to what they are today. I wouldn’t be the person I am today if it wasn’t for NAYA and the staff being a part of my life growing up.” Today Cazmine is an intern in Community Reception, and is the proud mother of three children, expecting a fourth this August. “All of my children are growing up here at NAYA and are NAYA youth as well. I couldn’t be more happy. I’m thankful and so blessed to be a part of the NAYA family. It is a full circle in my life.” Cazmine is another great example of our organization lifting up a youth and helping them make positive contributions to our community.
