Cazmine, Hunkpapa Lakota and Muskogee Creek, is from Fort Yates, North Dakota. Having been with NAYA for over 12 years, she is a great example of how our organization lifts up young people, and helps them make positive contributions to our community.
Cazmine started with NAYA as a youth, was our very first Foster Care Support client, and even helped develop the program. Cazmine was also one of the first youths enrolled in our high school.
“It started as 5 boys and me sitting in a little 10’ by 10’ room, and that’s where we went to school all day. Our phys-ed time was going to Pita Pit, and Micah Johnson [Physical Education Coordinator] taking us to the park for about an hour to play basketball.”
“I love that I have been around from the beginning of things at NAYA and have seen them grow to what they are today. I wouldn’t be the person I am today if it wasn’t for NAYA and the staff being a part of my life growing up.”
Today Cazmine is an intern in Community Reception, and is the proud mother of three children, expecting a fourth this August. “All of my children are growing up here at NAYA and are NAYA youth as well. I couldn’t be more happy. I’m thankful and so blessed to be a part of the NAYA family. It is a full circle in my life.”
