9th Annual Neerchokikoo Powwow
September 15 @ 1:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Free to the public!
Join us at the NAYA Family Center on Saturday, September 15th, for our Ninth Annual Neerchokikoo Powwow, a celebration of Native American culture. Since 2010, the Neerchokikoo Powwow has welcomed the community to gather in the tradition of the powwow, with drumming and dance for men and women of all ages. Our Tiny Tots exhibition showcases our youth, and throughout the day dancers of all generations step out to display their talent and pride in their traditions and identities.
Come and enjoy delicious Native foods and support Native artists as they offer a wonderful selection of hand-crafted wares, promoted through NAYA’s Microenterprise Program.
This much-anticipated event also honors partners, volunteers and donors whose contributions to NAYA’s work has enhanced the lives of our youth, families and Elders over the past year. We hope to see you there!
Situated on a waterway and near the confluence of powerful rivers, the site of the NAYA campus was often an encampment for local Native peoples, including the Multnomah Chinook tribe who called it Neerchokikoo. In June of 2006, NAYA Family Center moved to this site and received blessings from the Chinook community to make their new home on this traditional land.
