Volunteering at the NAYA Family Center
Volunteers play an important role in the NAYA Family Center's success! We simply couldn't function without the support of our volunteers who dedicated over 2000 hours of service last year.
Volunteering with us provides opportunities to:
-
Connect with the Portland Metro area's Native American community,
-
Gain a variety of transferable skills,
-
Do what you love.
This summer we have volunteer opportunities in the following areas:
Tutoring: Tutors are needed for the Summer Institute which will run from June 23rd – August 15th from 9am-2:30pm. High school students will be working hard throughout the week to complete coursework in math, English, science, culture, and employment. Tutoring will be from 1-4pm Monday-Thursday. Tutors are also invited to join the students at the Friday afternoon bar-b-ques as well!
Gardening and landscaping: With the changing of the seasons there’s lots of upkeep in the landscape of the NAYA Family Center grounds! Volunteers are needed to help keep the native plantings and building beautiful throughout the summer.
Event support: By helping with set-up, child care, serving food, and lending a hand to clean-up, volunteers are always key players in the success of community events. Here’s what’s coming up!
* Summer Gathering – June 26th, Thursday @ NAYA Family Center, 5:30-9pm
* Native Professionals Night – July 22nd, Tuesday, @ Lewis and Clark College
* Housing to Homeownership Fair –July 26th, Saturday, @ NAYA Family Center
All volunteers must fill out a volunteer application and submit to a criminal background check. Please come in to the NAYA Family Center to pick up an application or download one here.
